Reflecting and repurposing

I haven't much desire to blog lately.  I can't pinpoint exactly why, but in general, I've felt pretty quiet and reflective.  And I must admit that lately it has felt strange to post about pretty light-hearted stuff when so many others in our network of relationships are facing seasons of real hardship.  I know that doesn't diminish the value of what I'm experiencing in my everyday, but it does make me feel heavy...and quiet.  My friend, Leah, wrote what could have been some of my very own thoughts on her blog yesterday.

I've also been quiet as my mind is so full of all I need to do to leave our children for five days.  Yep, hubby and I are going on a trip (a work retreat for T's job) soon and leaving both kiddos.  I feel good about our arrangements for them, but still, this momma feels a bit sad and anxious about leaving them for so long!  It's definitely a good exercise in trusting God as their ultimate caretaker.

And yet, in the midst of many serious thoughts, we are still having fun around here!  How could we not with these two boogers!?!

The kids have been under the weather lately, so we've laid pretty low and have been "making" a lot of things.  This morning, I had a little too much fun repurposing some things to make a toy for Caleb (as if either of our kids need more toys).  While he slept, Hannah and I created this mess.

She made her own one-of-a-kind toy for her baby.

And I made this.

I got the original idea from this blog, but, of course, I modified it.  Caleb loves exploring textures. The only books he will sit through are the "touch-and-feel" kind, so I thought he'd enjoy some tactile things on the peek-a-boo doors.   And thus far, it's been a hit...with Hannah too.

Look at those two boogers! Sad I didn't get to come see you all this week. It was craziness. Soon though, soon!

love the homemade peek-a-boo pictures. what a great idea. speaking of tactile books/toys for kiddos: i remember my sister having a stuffed teddy bear that had all sorts of zippers, buttons, snaps, and lace up ties sewn onto it...intended to help kids practice that fine-motor skill finger dexterity i suppose! i always thought that would be a fun sewing project, to make a felt book with all of those different enclosures...if only i could sew.
